![]() If you want to do DPT, you need a dog heavy enough to create deep pressure. I prefer a smaller dog also, which is why I went for a breed that will probably mature at about 35-40 pounds. (My puppy is currently about 20lbs and, having carried her about half a mile on very cold days, I can say it is not practical for long!) I do not find her currently heavy enough for effective deep pressure. I would personally not choose a dog breed likely to mature smaller than 20lbs for this task, which rules out dogs small enough to easily carry around for long distances. Everything could be done while in a sling/pouch thing. Realistically, nothing about the tasks I need would require a dog to be on the ground. I see a lot of handlers talking about "four on the floor." I don't know if it's looked down upon to hold a small dog as long as it isn't in a shopping cart or on a chair or something. If I go with a small breed I would absolutely not have it walk around all the time – it would get stepped on or something. I'm thinking about maybe using a smaller dog instead, because they are a little more portable and it is soothing to be able to carry around a little dog lol This will absolutely still be my choice if I go with a big breed. The entire process of research and approval I have been thinking that I want a standard poodle. to alert me of a meltdown/anxiety attack). The tasks I would need are deep pressure and behavior interruption (skin picking, leg shaking, etc. Hi! I am ready to find a prospect but am having a breed dilemma.
